Last week, some of our Uplands student leaders participated in the Student Wellness Leadership Conference in Medicine Hat! They spent the day developing their leadership skills, learning about mental health and wellness in their community, and collaborating with over 200 of their peers from across Alberta. This is an awesome experience for all and we are proud of our students that participate each year! 🐾

A reminder to parents that next Friday October 30th is our Halloween/Fall colours parade and costume contest! We will also have Safe Communities joining us to present on Trick or Treating safely in our community this Halloween season.
🚑Over the past two days Uplands students had the opportunity to explore an ambulance up close and see some emergency protocols in action thanks to our amazing local paramedic first responders. We appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedules to educate and inspire our students and future heroes!⛑️

In honour of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, students participated in a variety of activities - from sharing Indigenous stories together, exploring the interactive Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada in our gymnasium, to playing Indigenous games during phys ed class. This is an important day to reflect on Indigenous history, honour and celebrate culture, and a reminder to us all that Every Child Matters, today, and everyday!

This afternoon Uplands staff and students will continue Terry's legacy and help FINISH IT as we head out for our annual Terry Fox Walk! Toonies for Terry has been a huge success again this year and thank you to all those that have contributed - there is still time to support our Uplands contributions to the Terry Fox Foundation using our donation page.

On September 29th, Uplands school will be participating in the Terry Fox Walk to help raise funds for cancer research.
We’re asking students to bring a $2 toonie to support this important cause. Every small donation adds up to make a big difference!

In partnership with EcoBrooks who is hosting a community clean-up around town tonight, our students did their part today by cleaning up around our school yard - making our already beautiful grounds even better! It was great to see some Bulldog citizenship in action today!

This past week our Grade 5 + 6 students participated in Student Council elections. All those Grade 6's running did an exceptional job in presenting to their peers and sharing how and why they would be the best candidate to vote for. Regardless of the result, each of them showed how lucky Uplands is to have such inspiring leaders throughout our school - great job all! Also a big thank you to Ms. Siewert for spearheading our Student Council and helping our Bulldogs build their leadership skills throughout the year - there will be lots of fun and community building ahead with this group!

This morning we held another Evacuation Drill at 11:00am. Safety procedures are incredibly important in the event of a real emergency and all our students did very well at following the procedures that keep everyone safe.
